Sync back on outlook
(South Africa)
Outlook sync seems to transfer a new user from a website to an Outlook contact list but doesn't update any information from an existing user account. The sync back option also doesn't seem to work when information of an existing user is updated on Outlook to sync back to the website. Is there a particular setting that has to be change for this?

I can't really understand this.
If you link your outlook to out demo site, you will see around a dozen existing contacts that sync to outlook.
You can add contact directly into that linked contact list in outlook 2007 and later. They will sync back to the website and create new user accounts in DNN.
You can edit contact information like email, phone, address data in either location. They will sync back to the other side. You can also delete contacts in either location and it will delete them on the other side.
So basically your statement is not so accurate.
Remember though that Outlook 2003 cannot sync two way, it can only create a read list in outlook.
Also not all fields are turned into contact data. i.e. custom fields like IM address have no link to outlook. (limitation from Microsoft).

I tried editing information on both outlook and our website, synced both sides and still had no results. I then went to the outlook sync demo site as you suggested. Login details were requested but my Iwebs login details don't seem to get me through. Is there a different registration process for that particular web page?

Turns out I am an idiot.
I had the permissions incorrectly set on this module demo (probably forever). I have fixed this. Please visit the demo again and take a look.

I have done a sync between my outlook and the demo site. Some demo contacts have landed in my outlook. How do I check these demo user accounts online to check if content is being uploaded from outlook to the website?

The easy way to do this is to install the trial of the module on your site. It is free and works 100%.
That way you can test out the module in your own environment.

Does this mean there could be a problem with the full version we are currently running?

Does what mean?
The trial is identical to the licensed version, less the license.

I thought that would be the case, hence I'm confused by the suggestion of installing the trial version yet we have the full version running already.

Have you got the latest version and Outlook 2007 or later running?

Please let us get everything right in one go.... We are running Outlook/ Office 2010 - Is that recent enough? We have active licences for outlook sync so it is not clear why we have to use trial licences? We have confirmed that we are running the latest version of outlook sync. We are having problems with the bidirectional synch and this problem has not been resolved by any of your suggestions so far.
Please consider your response carefully before responding, so that we can resolve this once and for all.

Could you submit a support ticket - left hand side - and provide URL and login details so we can see what it going on.

Re: Sync back on outlook
(United States)
I am having a very similar issue. The product installs, creates the contacts folder in outlook, synchs perfectly from DNN to Outlook.
Delete contacts within Outlook
: I have been able to delete one or two contacts from outlook, and have them show up as 'deleted' in DNN. It seems to work for one or two records, then mysteriously stops working.
Add contacts within Outlook
: That has not ever worked.
Change contacts within DNN
: I've gotten it to update one or two outlook contacts, but then does not continue to work (similar to delete from outlook)
I have deleted and reinstalled the module a couple of different times in the hopes that it would help, but alas the same behavior.
I edited the web.config per the blog instructions, no change in behavior. I confirmed that the web services at the specific URL displays as expected.
I also submitted a support ticket, and no resolution yet.
Any ideas/suggestions? TIA, Matt

Thank you for your input Matthew. I am still on the same page as you. Seeing as this is a common problem, perhaps support might be able to identify the cause and provide a solution this time around.

Thanks for the response! I added my domain to my allowed sites within Avast anti virus, I am keeping an eye on things to see if this affects the update capability.
2 questions:
1) How frequently does the update process happen (Outlook 2010/stand alone)
2) Is there documentation? I've not seen any.
Thank you!
Matt

Answer:
1) The update happens quite often. When ever I can find a new registration on Outlook, I run the sync online then run the send/receive in Outlook.
2) I haven't seen any documentation either!

The update is a function of outlook. It does not pole sync, but does it when you open, edit and save items. Outlook will also do this when you sync all.
We advised customers using this feature (that came out of sharepoint) to hit the folder and let it sit for about 20 seconds once a day. This will cause the sync to start.

FYI we are working on this. It appears something in later DNN versions is playing with things, but we have not worked it out yet.
