Spam and abuse
(Switzerland)
Hi
I am currently evaluating your Postcard Manager and found that the mail sent by Postcard Manager either get marked as spam or don't even get delivered.
The reason is the "From"-address which is entered by the user. The domain entered by the user of course does not match the SMPT reverse DNS lookup domain, which result in classification as spam.
You should allow the admininstrator to define the "From" address like you do for the body template etc.
In this case I can either just define "[youremail]" as the "from" address (as it is now) or do things like "from_[yourname]@mydomain.com" or any other fancy thing.
Second: How can I limit the actual send operation to registered users but still show the rest of the app to everyone. Like with webshops I you see everything but act only as a registered user. By showin the send button only to registered (verified) users one coud avoud abuse of the Postcard Manager.
Third: I can edit the resource files to translate to German. But how can I add a second language?
Thank you.
Best regards
Tom

1. I think you may incorrectly understand the reverse lookup technology for spam. Typically if your mail server has a valid reverse lookup configured, it will be validated as a non spam server. This has nothing to do with the sending domain, only the sending IP address of the STMP server used for relay.
What you are confusing is a spam technology known as SPF. (Sender Policy Framework). This uses the sending domain to lookup if a record exists for that domain stating the only valid SMTP server ip addresses for that domain. This is the only technology that comes to mind as blocking these email messages in relation to the sending address. Even in that case you need the stars to align.
You need to have the sending email domain as having a configured SPF record (very uncommon) and in that record, the records usually are set to allow all. Even after that, you also need the receiving email server to have SPF spam control. Also a technology that is not commonly used.
We have tested the module through correctly configured SMTP servers and some of the worlds most recognised spam systems, with no trouble.
2. The send limitation is not an option in this module.
3. You add a second language in DNN using the standard method of language control. There are a number of resources that explain how to manage languages in DNN. This module conforms to the DNN methods.
We hope this helps with your evaluation.
