Bounce e-mails Not Appearing
(United States)
So, I'm trying to properly configure bounce e-mail settings in the bulk emailer module on my DNN website. I'm currently testing with a google SMTP server.
Before, I had bounce settings configured like so:
Bounce Count: 2
Pop3 Server: pop.gmail.com:995
Display Name: noreply1@domain.com (domain.com for example sake)
Password: ......
Pop Enable SSL: Checked
Polling Frequency: 1
Delete Message: Unchecked
Delete Delay Notifications: Checked
Delay Notification Subject: Delivery Status Notification (Delay)
On my SMTP configuration settings, I had the email set to: sampleemail@gmail.com, using basic authentication settings(username and password). Test connection checked out.
In bulk emailer settings, I had set as 'Default Send From Email Address' : noreply1@domain.com.
So I tried sending out a bulk email. Mail is successfully visibly sent out from sampleemail@gmail.com, as per the test. However, upon checking noreply1@domain.com, there is no sign of any collected bounced emails, not even in the spam folder.
I figured that perhaps I could use the same e-mail address that I use for the SMTP authentication as the holster for the bounced emails(since mailer daemon emails would just compile in the inbox anyway), so I changed the above configuration to this instead:
Bounce Count: 2
Pop3 Server: pop.gmail.com:995
Display Name: sampleemail@gmail.com
Password: ......
Pop Enable SSL: Checked
Polling Frequency: 1
Delete Message: Unchecked
Delete Delay Notifications: Checked
Delay Notification Subject: Delivery Status Notification (Delay)
This set-up checked out upon testing connection. So I sent out another test e-mail, and waited for the bulk emailer to pick up on the resulting mailer daemon email, however it failed to do so. It's necessary that I get the bounce detection to work for the website.
If anybody could give me any help with this, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Btw, the platform is DNN7 and yes, I did take care to send to actual non-existent e-mails! =P

I think you are missing a fundamental understanding of email.
The send from address, is the address that the email will bounce to.
If you send an email from: no_reply@domain.com and it cannot be delivered, then it will actually bounce back to that address. i.e. there needs to be a real address established that really is accepting email messages that are sent to: no_reply@domain.com - the is irrespective of gmail, or any other service you use to send the message.
You should not be checking for bounce messages at gmail, but at your domains email account for: no_reply
Te idea of an address that reads "no reply" it that a human does not monitor the email address, so people should not try to communicate with you at that address, only a computer is looking for bounce messages on that account.
