RSS news feed inegration
(South Africa)
Please help. On your faq's you state the following :
"This feature has been included as per the inbuilt DotNetNuke Syndication method. To enable, go into the modules settings and check the box for allow syndication. Then either wait 60 (default time) mintues or force the DNN search scheduler (DotNetNuke.Services.Search.SearchEngineScheduler) to elapse every 1 minute and then the RSS feed will generate. Be sure the scheduler has been enabled and running in the Scheduler settings.
You need to wait for the process to recycle before it is visabel. - Best wait 60 min to be sure."
Can you clarify this in a bit more detailed manner please :
1) Do I need to include the RSS module on my page as well and should it be 'Visible' or not ?
2) Do I check the box for allow syndication in the AnnounceIT module or in the RSS module or both ?
3) How do I make the 'link' between the AnnounceIT module and the DNN RSS feed module (I dont see any area in the AnnounceIT module settings or Category management where on can enter the URL of an RSS feed or link to a DNN RSS module)
4) Is it possible for Different categories in the AnnouceIT module to be linked to different RSS feeds or will I only be able to link a single AnnounceIT module to one DNN RSS feed ? I would assume that if one can only link to a singel RSS feed it would be better to place Each feed on a seperate page each with it's own AnnounceIT Module and DNN RSS feed module.
5) To which category does the RSS feed automatically link to ? General ?
6) Or is it the other way round that the DNN RSS feed module should be visible, the AnnounceIT module 'Visible to Admintrators only' and the settings apllied to the AnnounceIT module will be applied to the DNN RSS module.
Please help
I am totally confused on how to set this up and would like to implement it on one of my live web sites ASAP.
Thanks,
Deon

1. No. RSS in the module feeds out to any RSS viewer. RSS in dnn (module) is for feeding RSS into your site and displaying it.
2. Just the module - then wait 60min by default.
3. When you have done step 2. You can visit the site with view permissions. See the RSS link and click it. If you are using an RSS view capable browser, you will see a result. That URL can then be used in someting like Outlook 2007 RSS feeds or Windows Vista. NOTE - you cannot have a permission based restriction. the RSS URL must be capable of being viewed by all users. This is a DNN restriction.
4. No. At this time we have only provided support to view the all categories. This way the RSS feed gives all posts. We have no plans to include a category based feed link. If you require this, please contact us for a quote on custom development.
5. All view. default view for the module.
6. RSS syndication in our module feed RSS out. DNN rss module is to feed an RSS feed into your site. 2 different things.Although you could use the view to display it on the same site. Why would you want to?
