Upgrade Wipe-out
(United Kingdom)
I run an Intranet site with forms created in version 40.01.55 and have just upgraded to version 45.02.10. This has resulted in all the modules built using the feedback designer being deleted. The module entries have been deleted from the database Modules table. With respect to the Feeback tables data has remained intack in the iwebs_CFD_Ctrl_Detail table, but all data is lost from the iwebs_CFD_Ctrls and iwebs_CFD_Results tables. Not too impressive if it had been the live site, but as I have been bitten by DNN before I ran this upgrade on a copy site to test first. Any one else experienced this?

Re: Upgrade Wipe-out

We can start by saying sorry about this... But also pointing out a few things.
1. ALWAYS - Backup Site Database and Files before installing any module... Golden rule with DNN. (but we probably did not need to say that one)
2. Our testing has not show this at all. Alll our upgrades are designed to work, keeping the content of existing modules in place. Not only has our testing never shown an error like this, but we have never had any other report from any of the hundreds of FD module users reporting anything similar.
3. So this leads to the last question. The correct upgrade method is to over install the module... i.e. just install the new one. Don't uninstall the previous version at all.
Again, sorry if this happened. Other than reverting to backup and trying again... there is not a lot we can offer, as it should not happen.

Thank you for your apology and prompt reply. Things can happen unexpectedly and as yet the cause is unknown.
We have a test environment on a virtual server on a separate box to our lives sites, to test application upgrades etc as a matter of course (cannot afford to do otherwise in the NHS!). I installed the newer version as per normal, ie not deleting the existing module and installing via the Module Definitions page "install new module" link.
I will recreate the site again on the test server and run through the install routine again, checking the results and will let you know how it has gone.
Running DNN version 04.07.00

I cleaned out the installation of DNN on our test web and SQL server and reinstalled the backup from our live site to start over. Installing the module went without a hitch and the Feedback Forms created in the early version have remained in tact, with the updates available, so the upgrade worked fine. Something must have gone amiss before, so should have tested again before posting this! Will do the usual backing up of the live site before implementing as with any upgrade.
I would just like to praise the speed that Interactive responded to my initial query, it is good to know you have their support.

We are glad you have solved your problem. Like we said, we have not seen anything like this before.... so who knows what the problem was.
Thanks too for the good feedback!
