Killer module :P
(New Zealand)
Hi there,
I purchased Activity Mailer today, now that it supports email addresses. I've been keen on this module for ages, but obviously it really needed that... so that's great!
However, I've also just spent an hour getting my site back online. This is pretty nasty.
The module automatically changes the scheduler to timer mode. Allowing a module to change host settings is already dubious, but this particular setting is a major no-no! It doesn't always work in that mode and in my case the portal system freezes and refuses to start again. I eventually managed to find the right place in the database and after trying a couple of values ("2" works) and am now waiting for it to start up again.
So... There are obviously two things here:
First, I suggest leaving the changing of host settings to the portal host (others might not be in a position to fix their portals at all). The second is.. can I still use the module in request mode?
Regards,
Rob

Rob,
Sorry you had this issue. Our testing did not reveal this problem. Do you have any details of errors or indication of the actual cause of the down issue, as possibly there is another reason to bring the site actuall to a stop. We would like to know what.
Additionally if you can remember, it may be nice to have at hand the DB tables you changed to put it back to non timer mode.
Regards the request mode. I will have an engineer look into options next week.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I posted in the DNN forums to try and get some comment on the issue, because I had found more than one thread talking about it without a solution. That post is
here
. I'll bump that post up again soon.
In the meantime, I've screen-grabbed the event log from the point I created a page and added the module. One can see where the module added the scheduled task and presumably it changed to timer mode after that.
Because I saw the info in the module intro screen and already knew that my portal would likely freeze in timer mode, I tested by restarting the application in Host Settings to check - this saves waiting for my daily recycle. Sure enough, the portal froze.
Now... the other person posting in my thread, Fooberichu, is thinking it might be caused by other tasks. I'm not sure what happens, but there are no scheduler errors.. it feel more like the event queue just doesn't even start. All my other tasks have been running for a long time. I have most of them slowed down and offset by minutes to avoid overlap.
The second to top event in the image is where the application started and just stayed.. then, 7 minutes later the top event shows where I started it again by force in IIS manager. There are no further events inbetween, so the problem is somewhere immediately after the Event Schedule Start operation.
I signed in using my host's SQL manager tool and simply went hunting for where I thought the setting might be.. that was in Tables, HostSettings, SchedulerMode. That was set to 1. But as I was unsure what the real value should be and didn't want to waste time, I signed into my test portal and checked there and found it to be 2. Applying that let me restart the portal.
I haven't been back to the page where the module is since.
I haven't got much else I can add at this point I'm afraid.

Hi,
I just popped back here to check for any updates on this module because now I'm on DNN 4.9.2 and the portal is working in Timer mode. I'll install ActivityEmailer 45.02.02 PA and see what happens.
I was running 4.9.0 previously. I don't get notifications from the forum here (the core forum seldom does that properly) so I didn't get this earlier.

So just to clarify, you now have the module working fine on 4.9.2?

Yes it appears to be working... though I'm waiting for the first automatic report to come through. I'm of course assuming that the module actually works and that it was only the fact that my portal did not go into timer mode, even though the module kept forcing it to, that was stopping it working before.
4.9.1 and 4.9.2 had fixes to do with the DNN scheduler.

That is an activation message. It should not be displayed all the time, it is indicating that the mdoule is not activated on the domain in question and is not able to contact our license server.
