Configure Date View and other ?'s
(United States)
Jsut purchased your module on SnowCovered. Nice product but a couple of questions:
1) I have several categories with many items in each category but when the page is first displayed it shows every single announcement across all categories (makes the page extremely long). How can I configure the module to default to a specific category when the page is first displayed and remove the 'Back to Date View' link when viewing a category?
2) I have the module located in a center panel surrounded by a left and right panel. When I click on the 'Read More' link on an announcement the next page displayed does not include the left and right panels thus I cannot see my other modules. Is this expected? Can it be changed to show my other modules since I have them configured to display on all pages in my site?
3) Is it possible to move an existing announcement to another category? Are you considering making the same announcement available in multiple categories with having to repeat the announcement in the database?
Thanks a bunch !

Re: Configure Date View and other ?'s

First off... sorry for the delay. We have not totally ignored you.. just that you don't know about what we have been doing..
Read on.
1. It is possible to turn off the category view. Under category configuration menu is a tick box to display or not. Untick to turn off the menu.
Then you could use the DNN menu system to reference the URL for each category view, Then point a DNN menu to that url to access the category.
2. Originally we had used the DNN standard (second page) feature. This means that all pages that refresh to show a second page do so with the DNN administration skin set for the portal. Who knows why DNN decide to do this, but we have been limited by this as part of the core. However because you and others have queried this (as we did) we decided to force a way around the problem. We have released AnnounceIT 40.02.01 this week that addresses the problem. Please download it from your downlaods area in snow as a free update. This will fix this problem. I might add that it has taken much work to resolve this core restriction.
3. Yes. To move to another category. Just edit the announcement and change the category that it belongs to under the category selector.
No intention to make multiple categories selectable. Perhaps you could explain how this could be seen as a benefit?

Re: Configure Date View and other ?'s

Thanks for your response. Below are my follow-ups...
1. What I was originally looking for is to keep the category view visible because I want to see all of my categories on the page, but I don't want to see the default view where every announcement across every category is visible. So, I may have three categories called 1)News, 2)Honors, 3) Awards ... with 10 announcements in each category. When I first view the page I see a view that has all 30 announcements on it (I believe this is the default date view). From there I can obviously click on one of the three categories and see their respective 10 announcements. The problem is the first view where I see all 30 announcements which both makes the page long and resembles just a long laundry list of announcements. Rather, it would be more functional to allow the selection of a default category and remove the 'Back to Date View" link when you're viewing the details of an announcement. (Sorry for the long-windedness)
2. Wonderful - thanks.
3. Given my example in #1 above I may have an Announcement that is relevant to more than one category (eg. both News and Awards categories). Ideally I would be able to use the same Title, Summary and Detail without having to copy each of these items multiple times. The risk is when the announcement has to be updated by making sure that all copies of the announcement across all categories across all instances of the module are kept in sync. As a developer, I understand that this may be rather complex to un-tether announcements in your current schema.
4. Lastly, what WYSIWYG rich text editor are you using on your forums. It's really nice.
Thanks Again.

Re: Configure Date View and other ?'s

1. I understand how you are trying to use ut.. perhaps you want have a blank default view to replace the date order view. We could consider this.
To solve the problem now, you could create a category called HOME etc. Find the URL for it and move it to the top of the category list.
Then map the DNN menu to that url... EG
http://www.interactivewebs.com.au/announceit/ExamplePage/tabid/93/ctl/ViewCategory/mid/512/Category/5/Default.aspx?SkinSrc=/Portals/2/Skins/SeasonsSKN/SpringAdmin&ContainerSrc=/Portals/2/Containers/SeasonsCTR/Basic
This has no items in it.
Then change the back to date view to make the text read something more pleasing to you like" show all"
This solution would basically give you the functionality you want. All be it a little messy.
3. We could give some thought to this or quote you for custom work to do this.... you see the intention is that the module is used as a news module. So all itmes are news and each item would belong to one category. Using the default view or an RSS feed would allow you users to stay up to date by quickly reading back to the date of their previous visit. Or via category if they are accessing a site that has special interest categories or sub categories. - It might be helpful to us to understand the actual application of it's use for you. What type of busines / web are you trying to meet the needs of?
4. It is good... that is Cute Editor from CuteSoft.net - badically good but we keep doing work on each release to get it to work correctly for us. I would not recommend it for people how are not developer smart or have access to a developer.

Configuring sub categories
(United States)
I would like to set up sub categories. I would like to have only one general category and then all my other categories listed under that category so that my page isn't so messy looking. Can you tell me how to set these up?

Re: Configuring sub categories

The general category cannot contain subcategories.
If you setup a second category. Every subsequent category can be listed as having this category as it's parent.
Under the module modification settings.
Modify Categories / Modify Other Categories
