Amazon SES - "Failed to get host address info"  (Canada)
Hi,

I'm getting the following error when trying to send emails:

ChilkatLog:
  OpenSmtpConnection:
    DllDate: May 26 2011
    UnlockPrefix: NTRACWMAILQ
    Username: ASHRAMWEB2:ASHRAMWEB2$
    Architecture: Little Endian; 32-bit
    Language: .NET 2.0
    SmtpConnect:
      SmtpHost: email-smtp.us-west-2.amazonaws.com
      SmtpPort: 443
      SmtpUsername: AKIAII6QYNJLQLPAE2FA
      SmtpSsl: 1

Versions of Windows earlier than Windows XP are limited to handling IPv4 only
On Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP, IPv6 addresses are returned only if IPv6 is installed on the local computer.
        SocketError: Error 0x2afc
Check to make sure the connection is not blocked by a firewall or anti-virus port filtering.
        hostOrIpAddr: email-smtp.us-west-2.amazonaws.com
        port: 443
        reverting to gethostbyname...
        dnsCacheLookup: email-smtp.us-west-2.amazonaws.com
        Resolving domain name (IPV4)
        Cannot get host by name..
        hostname: email-smtp.us-west-2.amazonaws.com
Failed to connect to SMTP server.
      checkOrMakeSmtpConnection: Elapsed time: 24093 millisec
Failed to connect to SMTP server

Does that mean that I need to move to a newer version of windows server if I want to see this working?

Thanks,
 Aderson

Re: Amazon SES - "Failed to get host address info"  (Australia)
Failed to connect to SMTP server.

The root problem is that you cannot connect to the SMTP server.  The causes are unlikely to be related to IPv6 and are unlikely to need you to upgrade your server.

The more likely causes are:
1. Wrong or changed user name and or pass.
2. Amazon have stopped your access to the SMTP server due to high volume spam.
3. Firewall or some other issue preventing access to: email-smtp.us-west-2.amazonaws.com:443 (ping or tracer to check)
4. You account with Amazon is closed or suspended.
5. DNS lookup issue for the domain

After checking all that stuff and any other obvious connection issues, is it time to look at IPv6. And in that instance, the thing to likely do is remove it from your NIC altogether (unless  you are going to use it).
